Dean Nail Becomes Mortar Board Honorary Member

Nail joins an exclusive group of academic excellence and service, as he was recently selected as an honorary member to the Mortar Board Forum Chapter at Texas Tech University. Dean Nail, who received three nominations from current Mortar Board members, was honored based on his distinguished contributions toward the advancement of the goals and mission of Mortar Board, his commitment to academic growth, and his proven dedication to student success – both academically and professionally.

“I am so honored to be inducted into Mortar Board as an honorary member – especially knowing that I was nominated by such an incredible group of students. The students at Texas Tech and the Rawls College inspire me to invest in them. Their work ethic, quest for knowledge, and desire to better the world are what motivate us as faculty members to help them reach their full potential,” Dean Nail said. “Working with our students is already an honor, so this recognition is a truly special honor. My ‘tapping’ made for one of the proudest days in my higher ed career.”

Dean Nail was also awarded the Mortar Board “Apple Polishing” recognition. He was selected by current Rawls student Kacie Phillips for his guidance, leadership and caring nature which has positively impacted her time at Rawls.

“Dean Nail is not only willing to go above and beyond for the betterment of the Rawls College of Business, but also for the students he impacts day after day. He is the true definition of a mentor, leader and friend to all students, and we aspire to emulate his servant’s heart as we continue on in our lives and careers,” said Phillips, a senior Marketing major with a Certificate in Management Information Systems. “We are fortunate to have such a remarkable individual within the Rawls College of Business, and it was with great pleasure that we welcomed Dean Nail into the Mortar Board family at Texas Tech.”

Mortar Board is a national honor society that seeks to enhance the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service on college campuses throughout the United States. The Texas Tech Forum Chapter, established in 1927, believes strongly in these ideals and desires to support students who exemplify scholarship, leadership, service, and other noble traits. The 2014-15 Texas Tech Mortar Board Forum Chapter is comprised of 15 Rawls students.
