Dr. Cogliser and Dr. Gardner Visit Indonesia and Present on Leadership

by - May 01, 2017

Dr. Claudia Cogliser, associate professor of management in the Rawls College of Business and associate dean for the Texas Tech Graduate School, and Dr. William Gardner, the Jerry S. Rawls chair in leadership and director of the Institute for Leadership Research, traveled to Indonesia on March 11-16 where they spoke about leadership at different venues.

The trip was set up due to a connection that Gardner has with Ph.D. student, Soebowo Musa, at the University of Indonesia. Gardner served on the dissertation committee of Musa, but was unable to attend Musa’s dissertation ceremony, so Musa, along with the help of his dissertation chair, Dr. Buta Soetjipto, arranged a visit for Gardner and Cogliser to come and present at a later date.

Gardner started off the trip by visiting Soetjipto’s organizational behavior class at the University of Indonesia as a guest speaker, where he shared his thoughts on the risks and benefits of charismatic and authentic leadership.

The following day, Gardner spoke to local business professionals on a panel at the “High Impact Leadership Workshop.” The workshop was organized by Kiran Resources in collaboration with Win International and the CIS School of Innovation. They discussed how to unlock the leadership potential of oneself through authentic leadership.

Later that night, Gardner presented on “Leading in Progressive Civilization” at the Ary Suta Center where he gave insights on how to be a virtuous citizen and how to promote authentic leadership.

On Wednesday March 15, Cogliser talked about authentic leadership and trust to students at Pertamina University.

The trip came to end on Thursday March 16, with Gardner presenting to 100 upper management business professionals employed by the Pertamina Corporation where he discussed practical applications of authentic leadership.
