Pam Knighten-Jones Retires After Nearly 37 Years with Rawls

Pam Knighten-Jones attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University, where she earned a degree in apparel design and manufacturing. Pam has worked for Texas Tech University and the Rawls College of Business for nearly 37 years, having been hired in October 1980. She enjoys a variety of athletic activities including golf, tennis, racquetball, bowling, walking, and biking. Pam is very talented at fashion illustration and design, and loves spending time with her family.

Pam started her career with the Rawls College in the Graduate Programs office. Her responsibilities included accepting and sending applications, making appointments, providing services and information via telephone, and executing essential office duties. After working for graduate services for two years, Pam moved into the Secretary II position in the ISQS department, where she has been ever since. Within ISQS, she was promoted to Secretary III before serving in various other roles, such as senior business assistant, unit coordinator, and academic administrative coordinator – her current position. Pam chose to remain in the ISQS department because she always enjoyed the work, and had a great working relationship with faculty.

“The faculty in my area always made me feel appreciated, as well as needed, and valued me as an employee,” Pam said.

When Pam started with ISQS, the college was still using typewriters, and she says using them to type statistical equations was a fun challenge. Throughout her time with the college, Pam has seen the immense technology and policy changes that have been implemented – an experience she enjoyed watching and gained valuable knowledge from.

Some of Pam’s favorite memories from the Rawls College include the days when the ISQS department celebrated holidays and special occasions by hosting a potluck. This gave the faculty and staff a chance to catch up with each other in a relaxed environment. Sometimes these events would include fitness challenges, pool parties, and cook-outs.

“There were so many amazing events in 30 years; it would take me way too long to share them all,” Pam said. “Just know I have a lot of great memories from my time here.”

Upon retirement, Pam’s priorities are to spend time with her family in other cities and take care of her mother. She also plans to take time designing clothes for herself and golfing. Mostly, Pam plans to enjoy her life, while always looking back on the incredible experiences she had at Texas Tech.

“My time at TTU has been a blessing, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to work in such a great place,” Pam said.

From all of us here at the Rawls College, we want to thank Pam for her commitment to the school, her tireless dedication, and her willingness to go above and beyond her job description to make sure others have the best experience possible. The Rawls College and ISQS department won’t be the same without Pam, but we are honored to have been given the past 36 years with her, and wish her the best in her retirement.
